| When we left...this is what started the adventure....we think. |
This is one of those entries that is out of necessity for me. I need to remember the details for a scrapbook page for later. Until then, for your reading pleasure...
I will tell the story as it unfolded.
Nano is here on a visit. When we have a free babysitter, we like to take advantage of it. Matt and I were running out for a few minutes of peace. Lucas was upset when we left, but we knew he would settle down. We were grabbing a quick bite to eat alone. About 30 minutes into our dinner, Matt's cellphone rings (of course I have left mine at home...great place for it when you have kids that are not with you). My mom was hysterical on the phone. She said we needed to come home. She had to call 911 because Lucas had gotten out. They had been playing in the backyard, and she went in to put a pan in the oven for dinner. She could not find him anywhere! The 911 dispatchers had called her back to tell her that they found him a few streets over. They were sending a police officer over to bring him home. We got home in about 10 minutes and beat the police car to the house where Lucas was found. Praise the Lord that he was safe!
Some funny things happened that I will have to remember.
1. A nice lady that was riding a bike, found him. She took him down the closest street, pointing at each house asking him," is this your house?" She must have showed him 10 houses. Lucas showed the lady a really pretty green house. When she asked him if that was his house, he said YES! Please note that our house is boring shade of brown.
2. When the lady rang the doorbell and told the woman that answered the door that she found him roaming the streets...the lady said that is not my child. They asked Lucas what his name was, he told them "James Bob."
3. While Addison was waiting with Nano, she shared something that she thought might encourage her....
"It's okay Nano, Momma Kitty ran away from home and she came back. Lucas will come back."
4. When Matt picked Lucas up and he drove up in the car he was beaming. Quite proud of himself. Not a care in the world. What a contrast compared to the child who will not be left in the nursery on Sunday mornings.
Once Lucas was home safe and sound. We all left for an emergency trip to Home Depot for new, more complicated, higher gate latch and sensor for the gate.
Thank you to the kind honest people in our neighborhood. Thank you to the lady who stopped riding her bike when she realized something was wrong with this picture. Thank you to the dispatchers and police officer that allowed us to bring our little boy home safely.
At least he had clothes on! He recently got out into the front yard and had no clothes or diaper on for the matter. Yes, naked as a Jay Bird sitting in the front yard!
In all seriousness I pray that I can raise him to adulthood. I might be white-headed...
